ADDINGTON MARKET.

INCREASED YARDINGS. FREEZING BLOCK ERINGS BEEF DOWN. The salient feature of the earlier part of the Canterbury metropolitan stock market held in the Addington yards today was a very decided easing in beef values. Two conditions combined to bring this about —an increased entry and the accumulated stores in export companies' hands. There was also a drop in store sheep values, although the general quality of the entry there was better. Yardings generally were strong, and there was a good attendance of buyers. FAT LAMBS. Only 2G49 fat lambs were penned —a big drop from last week's entry. A largo proportion consisted of light and unfinished lambs, for which the market was dull. Prime lines, however, sold readily at current rates.

The range of prices was: — Extra prime lambs to 34/-. Prime, 28/- to 32/6. Medium, 25/- to 27/6. Lighter lambs, 21/2 to 25/-. Pyue and Co. sold: Account A. McGregor (Selwvn) 05 25/8 to 29/-, A: V. STORK SHEEP. The entry of store sheep was in excess of last week's, although hardly the season 's largest. Again Poverty and IlawkVs Bay ewes hulked largely, but their quality was rather better than that of sheep which have been coming forward from that coast to the past two or three sales. The result of this was to raise the general quality of the market, but values, for the beginning at any rate, fell awr,y for all that. The sale was followed by a good gathering, but bids came slowly and did not mount high, either for ewes or lambs. The few wethers' offered were mostly in small lots.

FAT SHEEP. About eight races were taken up by the fat sheep entry. The quality was a good average, and the market opened firmer, especially for prime lines. EAT CATTEE. There was a greatly increased entry of fat cattle, 868 head being yarded. In the main the quality was very good, and there was a much better showing of ox-beef than last week. Following on a block .at the works, export buyers were holding oft' and, the yarding being in excess of butchers' requirements, competition was duller and prices suffered in consequence! Probably £1 per head would not be too big a drop to reckon all round. In some cases, indeed, the decline was much more- than that; and generally the sale was the worst for several mouths past. Some *>i the best of ..the entry was put for-
