THE GLASWEGIAN DILEMMA.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —May I offer a suggestion on the above? Somewhere it is also written that nothing that defiles can enter heaven, so they (the drunkards) will assuredly have to sojourn elsewhere for a time. They will go to their “own place.” If our spiritual leaders were only a bit more definite about that said place, and told us how surely and certainly we are building it bj' our actions and lives here and now, it would be the most powerful incentive to decent and sober living. The spiritual progress of the world has not been very satisfactory. The old teachings of the fear of hell, the devil, and death must give place to a more reasonable doctrine, as, say, that preached by Sir Oliver Lodge and Sir A. Conan Doyle and others. I don’t claim to be an authority; I am merely a SPIRITUALIST.
