NEW ZEALAND HORSES IN EGYPT.

To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —I read in your paper a short time ago that the New Zealand horses which were sent to Egypt and Palestine are not to return, but are to be sold. Sir James Allen says every care will be taken that they do not fall into the hands of the lower-class natives; but, sir, what guarantee have wo that these noble animals, who have borne their share of hardship and suffering in the cause of the Empire, will not be resold, and fall into the hands of people noted for their cruelty to animals. If it is impracticable to bring them home, would it not be more humane to destroy them (as many returned soldiers have done), rather than condemn them to years of suffering and ill-treatment?—l am, etc., A FRIEND OF DUMB ANIMALS.
