Lady Campbell (Cheviot) is staying at Warner's. Mr and .Mrs Macassey (lhwiedin) are visiting Christchurch. Mrs Orr returned to Oxford to-day after a short stay in town. Mr and Mrs .John Tait have returned to Christchurch after an extended tour of the North Island. Mrs Thoruhill Cooper ("Catlcy," Papanui Boad) has gone to New Brighton for a short while. Mr and Mrs J. C. McFarlane arrived from the south last evening, and are staying at the Clarendon. Miss Janet Stout, who has been nursing at the Napier Hospital, has severed her connection with that institution, and is in Wellington with her parents, Kir Robert and Lady Stout. A very enjoyable little dance wis held by the Union Rowing Club at the boathousc on Wednesday evening. Supper was served in the new billiard room, which was greatly admired. Advice has been received by cable that the marriage of Miss Janet Ogle (Christchurch) and Captain Lionel Hoygate, Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, of Mapledene, Loughborough., Leicestershire, will take place on Wednesday, May 22, in London. A northern engagement that has just been announced concerns Mr William Calloway, of Waikato, and Nurse Prances Brandon, fourth daughter of Mr J. P. Brandon, Lyall Bay, Wellington. Mr ami Mrs Louis Blundell (Wellington), who have been staying in Christchurch for a day or two, intend going on to Greymouth to-morrow to be present at their son's wedding. He is to marry Miss Sylvia Mellor on the 20th jnst.

A request appears in our advertising columns for several lady collectors to assist the Sailors' Day Committee on Friday next. When it is borne in mind that the present prosperity of the Dominion depends so largely on the selfsacrifice of these men, we are sure our lady readers will not be slow to show their appreciation in a practical way and send in their names at once.

At the monthly meeting of the Pkillip'stown Kindergarten Committee Mrs "Williams presided, and there were eight members present. An apology was received from Mrs "W. Gummitt. The headmistress (Miss Willis) reported that the number on the roll was 65, the highest attendance 56, lowest attendance 25, average 53. The treasurer's Teport for the month showed school subscriptions amounting to £2 4/10. It was decided to hold a sale of work on May 25, Mesdames McKenzie and McCausJand were elected the visiting committee for the ensuing month. The engagement is announced of Miss Esther Cleveland to Captain Alfred Bosanquet, D.5.0., Coldstream Guards. son of Sir Albert Bosanquet, K.C. Miss Cleveland is one of the daughters of the late' President Grover Cleveland and Mrs Thomas J. Preston, jun., of Princeton, New Jersey, and was born in the "White House during her father's second administration. She was at St. Dunstan's Hostel for the Blind in June, 1916, and since then has been working at the Lighthouse for Blinded French Soldiers in Paris, founded by Miss Winifred Holt, of New York.
