Mrs Henry Acland is staying at Warwick House. Mrs St. John Buckley left to-day for Oamaru after a week in town. Miss L. Fisher (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs Andrae, Knowles Street. Mr and Mrs R. Conn went back to Dunedin to-day after a visit to this city. Mr and Mrs Nimmo-Scott (Timaru) went to [Tanmer this morning after a stay in Christehurch. Mr and Mrs Stone motored back to Invercargill yesterday after spending the holidays in Christehurch. Miss Daphne Williams, of Akaroa, who has been on an extended holiday In town, returns home at the end of this week. Mrs T. E. Taylor (Cashmere Hills) and her daughter, Mrs Luke, are spending a holiday at Whakamatau, Lake Coleridge. Mrs Meredith Heaton Rhodes, who has been paving a round of visits in Canterbury and the North Island, has returned to Sydney. Sergeant and Mrs Burson, who have been down south, came up to Christchurch last evening, and are making a short stay here before returning to Trentham. Miss Vera Slater (Bcaley Avenue) has had news that her fiance", Mr Jack Bish, who was on the engineering staff ht the s.s. Wairuna, is a prisoner of war in Germany. Mr and Mrs Robert" Laidlaw (Auckland), Dr and Mrs McKellar (Dunedin), and Mr and Mrs Sellers (Penang, Straits Settlement) are amongst the guests are Warner's. The Red Cross tea at the Art Gallery to-morrow afternoon, when Mrs Boyle (president) will entertain the depot workers, promises to be a great success. It is hoped that the public will also attend in large numbers and help to swell the Red Cross funds. Last evening the office staff of the Eink Taxis, Ltd., met together at the manager's (Mr W. Hayward) residence to bid good-bye to Miss L. Wood (Fenaalton), who is leaving the employ of the firm after five years, owing to her approaching marriage. After a musical programme had been gone through and supper served, Mr Hayward presented Miss Wood with a ©heque from the firm and a silver hot-water jug from tie office staff. Mr L. F. Castlehow suitably responded on behalf of Miss , "Wood. ,A very successful entertainment was given on Wednesday evening at St. Saviour's schoolroom, Sydenham, in aid of the Plunket Society. Through the excellent work of the society's nurses the life of a baby was recently saved m lhat suburb. As a mark of appreciation, the parents, and others who had benefited from the same source, concluded that a public entertainment would be the best way of showing their gratitude. Mr Maling, a well-known organiser, with Mrs Pritchard and others, formed a company, styled "The Juvenile Merrymakers, '' and arranged a capital proframrao, which was thoroughly enjoyed y the large audience. During the afternoon Mrs Morton, president of the Plunket Society, thanked the promoters and performers' for their splendid effort.
