FIRE BOARD TROUBLE.

A MEMBER’S RESIGNATION.

A matter which has been exercising the attention of tho Fire Board is the resignation tendered by Mr J. F. Grierson. At the last meeting of the board it was decided to consider the qnestio?) of-the resignation at the meeting of tho board which was held last evening. When the matter was mentioned, the secretary (Mr CV.7. Trclcaven) said that he understood that Mr Grierson would not attend nntil his resignation was either refused or accepted. Mr H. R. Knsbridge asked whether the board had the power to deal with the resignation. He understood that it was for the Minister to deal with, to whom the resignation should be forwarded. Mr Holland said that now, seeing that all the difficulties were removed, he would move that Mr Grierson he recommended to withdraw the resignation. Mr Rnsbridge said that he was sorry to have to oppose the motion, but thero was nothing personal in the matter. ' He referred to the circumstances of the resignation. Mr Grierson had said that if a certain motion were carried he would resign, and he did resign. It was open for linn to withdraw ins resignation. The threat was an attempt to flout the business of tlie board, but he U would be pleased to sec Mr Grierson withdraw his resignation. Mr Holland said that he thought that Mr Grierson had ample reason to be annoyed, and he had used words .he would not have done in a calmer moment. The trouble was now over since the acceptance of the superintendent’s letter had been withdrawn. It would be more dignified for the hoard to ask the superintendent to withdraw his offensive remarks. Now it had blown over, ho thought that Mr Grierson knew that the board did not want him to resign. The motion was carried, Mr Rnsbridge only dissenting.
