FIRE BOARD.
LAST NIGHT’S MEETING.
The Christchurch Fire Board met last evening, there being present: Messrs IT. Holland (chairman), 11. F. Hopkins, G. J. Kerruish, and 11. F. Fusbridgc. The superintendent’s report stated that the number of calls received from all sources since February 11 was 17. Of these, eight were for false alarms (five being malicious), two were for outside district calls, and seven wore for actual fires within the city area. The estimated total fire loss on contents and buildings was £334. The insurances on property on which fires occurred were £30,310, and estimated values on property on which fires occurred were £39,535. The estimated total fire loss for the previous month was £4245. On February 13, at 6.1!) p.m., and February 1 16, at 4.26 a.m., alarms were recorded on the “ Gamewoll' ’ instrument from the New Zealand Express Company and D.T.C. premises respectively. The brigade motors and men turned out, but on arrival both registers were found to be for false alarms. The usual charge of £1 1/- was debited to the occupiers of the premises connected. Tim permanent staff had been kept up to its full strength, and the conduct and discipline of members was eery satisfactory.—The report was adopted.
The statement' of receipts aml expenditure showed tliat the receipts for the month were £I4OO 3/4, end the expenditure £48.1 2/8. The statement was adopted. Accounts amounting to £529 7/3 were passed fur payment.
