LIFE-SAVING.
CANTERBURY HEAD CENTRE. The Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal Life-saving Society met last evening, Mr K. Bassett presiding. Mr J. Wyn Irwin reported 011 the deputation which had waited on the Headmasters' Association. The meeting had proved very valuable, and had had the effect of showing the headmasters that the society had an interest in their schools.
The Headmasters' Association, replying to the society's invitation for comment on the competitions, stated that it considered the end of the swimming season preferable to December for holding the competitions. The standard recommended by the Ladies' Committee for the girls' competition for the Rose Bowl was far too high (the suggested standard being for the Proficiency Certificate). The association considered that voluntary instructors who were not members of a school staff should be allowed to take charge of their respective school teams in the competition. It was decided that the competitions for both the Collins Cup and the Girls' Rose Bowl be held in De.-ember each year.
It was do,-idol that the competition for the Girls' Ro.->o Howl be held on Tuesday next, and for the Collins Cup on Wednesday. It was decided that there be four judges for each competition. The following were appointed judges: Rose Howl competition—Mrs Bambery, Messrs J. Wyn Irwin, ('. Bryant, and Wat It ins; Collins Cup—Messr-i Mitchell, Bryant, Watkins, and Hollander.
