WAR RELIEF.
PUBLIC LIBERALITY WANTED. [Special to The Sun.] WELLINGTON, December 12. The public will be asked to find more money for the Wellington War Relief Association during the coming year. The association has at present about £70,000 in cash and investments, and other sums bring its total assets to £78,612. But during the year ended November 30, 1017, the association's expenditure amounted to £11,090 6/6, and the income, including subscriptions and interest on investments, reached a total of £BOO9 16/10, leaving a balance to be made good out of capital of £3OBO 9/8. . .
"It should be remembered," states the association in its annual report, "that our organisation will be called upon to disburse moneys for many years after the war, and we must therefore do what we can to keep our finances in as sound a position as possible. The committee hopes that the public will continue to take an interest in the work of the association and give freely of their surplus moneys. All the moneys that will be forthcoming will be wanted and will be carefully administered." Members of the association stated at the annual meeting yesterday that an effort to raise funds would be made during the coming year. The association desired to' raise year by year during the war the money required for expenditure in that year, in order that the capital sum now in hand might be regained for the pressing necessities that would arise after the conclusion of peace, when demobilisation had and thousands of men were returning to civilian life. It would be essential then, moreover, to have money in hand for permanent allowances in some cases of disablement and to certain classes of dependents.
