FIRE BOARD.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The Christchurch Fire Board met last evening, there being present, Messrs H. Holland (chairman), A. Williams. W. B- McKenzie, W. IT. Cooper and IT. E. Rusbridgc. Tho Woolston Fire Board wrote asking that, as it possessed only a first aid plant, it would be glad if the Christchurch Board would place the Jubilee Home on its guaranteed list. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Messrs Grierson and McKenzie to make some inquiries. The Rev. F. Rule wrote in reply to the Board, stating that with regard to the fire at the Home at Bligh's Road, and his application for remission of charges in connection with the attendance of the Board's plant and staff, that their provisions for winter had been lost, and that the application for remission would not have been made were it not for the fact that no compensation was received from the Insurance Company holding the risks. It was decided to leave this matter also in tho hands of Messrs Grierson and McKenzie. The superintendent's report stated that the number of calls since the previous meeting was thirteen, of which five were false alarms, three being malicious, arid eight actual fires. The estimated fire loss was £228, the insurances £2150, and the property values involved £.'1270. The permanent staff was at full strength, the discipline satisfactory. A few vacancies existed on the auxilary staff. The report recommended that prices for the proposed new motors be obtained at the earliest possible moment, also that 3000 feet of "rose'' hose be ordered, at £271 5/3.
