ASHBURTON.

WAKANUI ADVISORY BOARD. From Our Own Correspondent. A meeting of Wakanui ratepayers was held yesterday afternoon in order to appoint five members to act as an advisory board for the Wakanui district, in connection with the National Efficiency scheme. The chairman and one other member of the committee will act on the central executive at Ashburton.' Mr J. Bruce (chairman of the Wakanui Road Board) presided over a small attendance, and apologies for absence were received from Mr H. F, Nieoll and Mr G. W. Leadley. The chairman read the telegram sent by Mr Frostick to the chairmen of the various road boards, in which was explained the general outline of the campaign. He pointed out the committee appointed must consist of members representative of the whole district as the greatest work of the Efficiency Board would be in assisting production by supplying available man-power where it wa3 needed. In order that the scheme should be successful the co-operation of every farmer in the country waa needed. After considerable discussion, the following members were nominated: — Messrs .1. Bruce (ehainnan), F. Frampton, H. F. Nieoll, G, W. Leadley, and G. K. Watson. NEWS AND NOTES. There was a second entry of 11,-654 fat sheep ,a± the Tinwald yards yesterday, as compared with 3440 last week. The yarding included 1277 fat ewes, 516 fat wethers, and 2742 lambs. Although buyers were freely operating, the prices were not up to last week's standard. The following is the range: —Fat ewes 21/6 to 30/3, fat wethers 24/3 to 33/-, fat lambs 21/3 to 31/3. There was a heavy yarding of cattle, and butchers bought freely. Tho following sales were made:—Fats £S to £l7 !">/-, stores £2 10/- to £9 7/6.
