KAIAPOI.
The Kaiapoi Borough Council met last evening, there being present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. 11. Blaekwell), and Councillors W. Doubledav, S. Binaldi, 11, Mcintosh, J. Bryden, L. B, Evans, T. B. Lcithcad, E. Dunn, E. Croft and 11. Eevell. The secretary of the Kaiapoi Eiversidc Carnival was granted permission to erect tents on Eaveu Street, on March 24. Johnston; Mills and Joyce, solicitors of ChristchuTch, wrote threatening proceedings on behalf of Mr T. G. Blackwell for a claim for damages to goods alleged to have been destroyed by the Fire Brigade. It was decided that the council obtain legal advice as to its position. The Minister of Public Works forwarded a copy of an agreement covering the consumption of electric current by the council for a term of five years. The agreement was adopted. The action of the Lighting Committee in reserving the Fire Station for a switching station was approved. It was decided that the poles required in the borough for lighting purposes be placed on the footpath flush with the inside of the kerbing. The financial report gave receipts as £!) 14/3, dr. balance at bank 13/10. Accounts for £OB 17/3 were passed for payment. The council sat later as the Domain Board and Councillor Mcintosh reported (.nat a fire had occurred in the Domain, but it had been got under control before much damage had been done. Council lor Leithead ashed that the lake be again inspected, as he intended to bring up the matter of the bad smell arising therefrom at the next meeting of the hoard. Prior to the council mooting, a statutory meeting was held to pass (he Electors Pol!. The roll was confirmed, and the Mayor and Crs Croft and Doubleday were appointed to sign it.
