LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The body of Augusti reterson, a settler at Le*Bon's Bay, was found hangIng by a rope in an outhouse on Thursday afternoon, indications pointii-g to suicide. The deceased was a Swede .and was the owner of a farm Ln the district. He was a married man with no children. At the time of his death he was in fairly good circumstances, but had not been in good health lately. He gave, however, no indications that ho intended to commit suicide. An inquest will be held. Stirring music played by various bands which marched through the city yesterday afternoon, en route to the public gardens, was instrumental in drawing a big crowd to that resort. The occasion was a concert, organised by the South Island Bands' Association, at which the Woobton, C.Y.C., Tramways, Deny's, New Brighton, and Lyttelton Marine Bands participated, in aid of the Fiuety-lleard Benefit Funds. As a result of a collection which was taken up at the gates, the sum of £42 3/7 was realised, which amount, however, will be subject to a small deduction for expenses. The arrangements were carried out bv the secretary of the association, Mr T. F. Ball, and by the treasurer, Captain McGee.
