UNION CLUB. The final of the Trial Double Sculls race was rowed last eve:>i»!ii !'"• winning (rwi being T. H. Grenfell si:»tl S. I", Ilcminingsen. The racing was very interesting, and there were a fine lot of boys taking part, sonic of whom show great promise. The first heat between F. Foster and ('.. Ward and F. \V. Williams and H. C. Ross was a splendid race, the latter winning by a length, just at the finish. The second heat between J. Forrester and W. Easterbrook and T. H. Grenfell and S. V. Hemmingsen resulted in a win for the latter by about three lengths. The semi-final between G. H. Walker and F. Matthews and Williams and Ross was spoilt by Walker losing his seat at the start. Williams and Ross getting away and winning by about two and a-half lengths. The final between Grenfell and Hemmingsen and Williams and Ross was a splendid go. Grenfell lost about half a length at the start, but gradually drew up. At Stanmore bridge his boat was level, and at Avon shed was a length in the lead. Williams and Ross then quickened up, and gained half a length, but could not pass Grenfell and Hemmingsen, who won by half a length. Members are now looking forward to the interclub matches which it is intended to hold on the river during the season. The first clay is set down for Saturday, January (i, when a Maiden Four and a Junior Double Sculls will be rowed. The idea is to row the heats off quickly, and make it interesting for the spectators. Entries for the Trial Pair Oar Race close on Monday evening.
