RED CROSS.

LADIES' COMMITTEE. The Ladies' Committee of the Cantcr-bury-Westlaud Centre of the Red Cross Fund met this morning, Mr A. E. G. Rhodes presiding over a largo attendance. The chairman stated the total amount received from the recent "Our Day" appeal had amounted to £16,434. The Wilding art union had realised £225, free of expense. The total value of the goods and money raised by the centre was £119,725. Regarding yesterday's discussion at the meeting of the Men's Executive, the chairman said that he could only reiterate the remarks he made there concerning expenses. Up to the present not one penny of the money subscribed by the public to the fund had been used in paying expenses.' It had, however, been found necessary to provide more accommodation for the Comforts Committee's workers. With this end in view, more rooms had been rented in the present building at au annual rental of £75. Of this amount £5 5/- had so far been subscribed privately. The Bandage Committee reported that the number of articles made during this month exceeded considerably the number of the previous month. The Packing Committee's report stated that 24S cases hail been sent away. The other committees' reports were highly satisfactory. A letter was received from St. John's Gate, England, acknowledging the receipt of Red Cross goods from the Christchurch Red Cross Branch. Votes of thanks were passed to a number of city firms who had actively assisted in the work of the committee. SALES DEPOT. Tin; week-end sale of home-made food supplies will take place at the depot, Cathedral Square, on Friday night and Saturday morning. The sale will be in charge of Mrs W. llelmore, Miss Helmore, and Miss Elworthy, who will have on offer large quantities of home-made delicacies of all sorts; also poultry, eggs, bacon, butter, meat jams, chutney, fruit, vegetables, groceries, bed-ding-out plants, and cut flowers.
