SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
hj ■»-■■■■ WAIAU. The Waiau School Committee held its ; monthly meeting' on Monday, there being present: Messrs C. Oldman (chairman), W. It. Creed, G. Lander, and the ' ' Rev. Mr Thomson. A motion of sympathy was passed to Mr Aldridge (head- ' teacher), on the loss he had sustained in ! the death of his father. The commit- ' tee congratulated the teachers on the excellent inspection report of October 20. The headmaster reported that the • attendance for the year was 81, and if this could be maintained for the rest of the year the school would be entitled ! to another assistant. The sum of £(i ■ 10/- had been collected so far towards I the school prizes. The Rev. Mr Thorn- M son reported that he had organised a I school picnic for Saturday, December j .0, to be hold at Lyndon Estate. In view , of this picnic, ami on account of the ; shortage of funds, it was decided not , to hold the usual school treat this year. \ The sum of £1 10/- was voted for the , school children's sports, to be held at the picnic. The prizes will be present- ] ed in the school on Wednesday after- ( noon, December 20, and the school will j then break up for the Christmas holi- c I days, and reopen on Monday, February 5, 1917. - | "
