BUT RESIST STUBBORNLY. A German communique says:— The Rumanian resistance on the Lower Alt River lias been broken. We have crossed the river there, and Rumanian battalions which were cut off from the main army are stubbornly resisting. Experts point out that General von Falkenhayn failed to cut off Rumania from Russia in the Moldavian deities, and was then compelled to abandon his march on Bucharest through the Predeal Pass, while the unexpected forced march on Craiova is merely a raid intended to create alarm. As an enemy base it is too remote to enable him to crush Rumania. The experts therefore urge the public to await developments before jumping to the conclusion that the Rumanian defence has proved a failure.
