HOLLAND WINS.
•JOE CHIP BEATEN ON POINTS. i The contest at the Stadium List 'night (says the Sydney "Sun" of November 12) between Fritz Hollan<l an<l Joe Chip went 20 rounds. Holland received the decision on points. The ver- ' diet met with the approval of most of i the audience. It was Chip's second appearance in Australia. A few weeks ago he lost on points to Dave Smith. He gave-an ex : hibition against Holland which in- ' clined some to believe he would be declared the winner. The contest was not a brilliant effort on the part of either man. Holland, who entered the ring- weighing list ljlb, was 41b lighter than his opponent. He has fought fine battles in Australia against many of the best imported and local boxeis, but his latest effort was much below the form expected of him. He has not been in the ring in a contest for o\ er three months, and perhaps his absence for even so short a period might have caused him to box as sluggishly as he did. Chip was always a forceful fighter, and if he did miss he also scored. It cannot be denied that he made the fight, which is the first thing to consider in a contest. He did practically all the leading. Holland was frightfully backward in this department of the game. He would wait until Chip let go a punch with either hand, and even if his defence prevented the blow from landing where intended, he was rarely quick enough to operate in such a way as to do any harm. On the other hand, Chip would, in nearly every case, come back and slam blow after blow eithei to the body or the head. Chip attacked Holland in such a vigorous manner that he knocked him down in -the tenth round. Holland rose at the count of nine, but was very shaky. He. however, recovered, and in subsequent rounds he placed some rights on Chip's jaw. Most of the time, however, Chip was attacking, and at the end of the contest he was remarkably stroirg, while his opponent was a very boxer.
