SURF BATHING.

NEW BRIGHTON CLUB. A meeting of the committee of the parent branch of the New Brighton Surf Bathing and Life Saving Club was held last evening, Mr Knox (club captain) in the chair. Present: Messrs Chivers, Stokes, Clarkson, Campbell, Soanes, Hopkins, Jack, Harker, and Blank (delegate from the North branch). Donations were received from the Hon. H. F. Wigram (£2 2/-), Mr E. Nordon (£1 1/-), and Mr Legh (£1 1/-). The resignation from Mr S. Peters, who has enlisted, was held over, and it was resolved to write a letter of thanks to Mr Peters, who has given up a lot of time to the club. Mr MeCree's tender to paint the four life reels was accepted. Accounts amounting to 19/- were passed for payment. Eight new members were elected and three held over. Twenty-three new members were elected to the branch club. Mr Stokes moved that a conference of delegates from the various surf clubs be held, with a view of forming a Surf Association, on similar lines to that in New South Wales. The captain, deputy-captain, and secretary were appointed delegates, and the society was instructed to write to the various clubs adjacent to Christchurch, to arrange a meeting at an early date. Mr Blank gave a lengthy rejiort from the North branch, in reference to the new pavilion. Messrs Knox, Chivers, Jack, McClelland, Campbell, and Bryant were appointed a sub-committee to report at next meeting. NORTH BRANCH. A meeting of the committee of the North branch was held at Thompson's Camp. Present: Messrs Leaver (in the chair), W. Thompson, MeKenua, and Blank. Nine new members were elected, subject to the approval of the parent club. The secretary reported having interviewed several business people, who had offered to supply a portion of the material for building the pavilion. Mr D. Reese's offer for cement was accepted with thanks. On the motion of Mr Leaver, it was decided that a letter bo written to the town clerk, asking for the site of the new pavilion to be at the east end of Osborn Terrace, such site to be 80ft by 40ft. Mr Leaver was deputed to arrange for shingle for concrete.
