BALLOT IN PROGRESS. NAMES NOT TO BE PUBLISHED YET. Press Association. WELLINGTON, November IG. The first ballot under the Military Service Act was commenced by the Government Statistician this morning. Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M., was supervising. There were also present the Mayor of Wellington (Mr J. P. Luke), the President of the Trades Council (Mr M. J. Rcardon), and Press representatives. It is expected that the balloting will conclude at midday to-morrow. The Minister of Defence states the names will not be published until gazetted.
