ANNUAL REPORT. The report on the year's working of the Canterbury Society of Arts, to be presented at the annual meeting of members on November 28, slates that the council recorded with regret the death of several members who had lost their lives in the service of their country, and also of Mr A. W. Walsh (at Auckland), who for some lime was a member of the council. All members who were serving their country had been made honorary members during their time of scVvice. The annual exhibition was held during March and April, and the works exhibited were well up lo standard. The sales, although not as good as in years prior to the war, were very little behind last year's. The receipts from lettings of the gal-j lcry showed a good increase on fasti year's figures, and, considering the war, must be considered very satisfactory. The gallery had been lent j free of charge on numerous occasions for meetings and functions in: connection with various patriotic funds. It was at the disposal of the Queen Election Executive for six months, and appreciative letters of thanks had been received. The annual grant of £SO from the Christchurch City Council was expended in the purchase of "Summer," by N. Welch, "The Beach, New Brighton," j by Grace Butler, and a miniature 1 "Kitty," by Mrs E. Walhvork. The balance sheet showed receipts £B2B i)/3, expenditure £71)8 9/3, leaving a balance in hand of £3O. The liabilities were £161)5 J/-, and Ihe assets £87!)!) 17/1. i
