COMMANDEERED MEAT.
The question of the purchase of New Zealand meat by the Government, anil the marketing of same in Kngland, has recently been freely discussed by farmers and sheepowners throughout the Dominion. At a meeting of the Invercargill branch of the farmers' Union, held on Saturday last, Mr .1. McQueen, in reviewing the position, stated that one trade circular showed that Argentine meat was fioii) Jd to 2Ad or 2j<l higher than New Zealand, and, even if the Imperial Government controlled the whole of the meat supply, the people would continue to be exploited, because the wholesaler was really the retailer. A meeting of sheepfurmers and others will be held at Tiniaru to-morrow, at 2 p.m. The meeting is under the auspices of the South Canterbury branch of the Farmers' T'nion, the Sheepowners' Union, and the A. and I'. Association, and it is understood that Mr John Talbot will preside. Mr P. 11. Labatt will attend the meeting on behalf of Messrs W. F. Parkinson and G. I). Greenwood, the conveners of the Christehureh meeting.
