Exchequer bonds and the news that part of the French war loan is to be offered in London. There is no great pressure to sell, but all are being marked down. The following are the latest quotations for Government securities, with a comparison with those ruling on September 21:—

METALS. Tin.—Stocks 17,933 tons, spot 3012, afloat 32'.10, deliveries 1521. WHEAT. NEW YORK, October 3. Chicago December are quoted at 15SIJ cents per bushel, as compared with 157* last week. For May deliveries quotations are 15;!jj cents, as compared with 156). The visible supply is 08,430,000 bushels. LONDON, October 3. The market is firm, and cargoes are held for (id to 1/- advance. The latest reports indicate a probability of the exports from the Argentine and the United States being considerably below expectations, causing a shortage of supplies in the new year.
