SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At the last meeting of the S\'donham School Committee there were present: Messrs E. L. McKeon (in the chair), T. 11. Butterfield, Fricker, Lake, Slater, and Taylor. The headmaster reported that the number on the roll was 1027. The children collected bottles to assist the Lady Liverpool Fund, which benefited to the amount of £B. A circular was received from the Education Board re cutting down incidental allowance, and the following resolution was forwarded to the board:—"That, in the opinion of this committee, the proposal of the Education Board to reduce the amounts payable to school committees is contrary to the best interests of the children, and as a committee we most emphatically protest against any reduction, it being now almost an impossibility for school committees to make ends meet under present circumstances; further, that as the Government has recently seen fit to give almost half a million of money to certain of its servants as a war bonus, this committee considers that any reduction in the incidental allowance is quite uncalled for." It was resolved to call the Education Board's attention to the promised new school, and to ask when a start was going to be made; also that the chairman of the board be asked to unveil the honours board and a memorial tablet to the late Lance-Corporal N. Sustins (late of the teaching staff) on Saturday, October 7, at 3 p.m., and to invite all the members of the board to be present. Mr Lake, the delegate to the School Committees' Association, resigned, and Mr Slater was appointed. Messrs Watts, Slater, and Taylor were appointed a Visiting Committee for the ensuing month.
