Matters in connection with the Permanent War Funds Committee were discussed, and it was decided to write to the secretary of that committee, pointing out that the present committee was formed for the purpose of attending to the farewelling of departing soldiers, and asking for financial assistance; and to write to the town clerk suggesting that the Mayor and councillors should in every case give a formal welcome to all returned men.
The monthly meeting of the Burgesses' Association was held on Saturday evening, the president (Mr H. Buttle, sen.) being iu the chair. The following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That it be a recommendation to tho Borough Council that the Mayor and councillors extend a formal welcome to all men returning from active service." The recent accident at the pier, whereby a child fell from the docking to the sand, was discussed, and Cr Roberts wa3 asked to bring the matter, as well as the question of open gates at the end of the pier, under the notice of the council.
