TRANSPORT 49.
ANOTHER ECHO.
A FURTHER TESTIMONIAL. [From our own Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, July 19. Further reference to Transport 49 was made in the House of Representatives to-day, when the Hon. J. Allen read the following letter from 13 returned soldiers, residing in Wellington:— "We being members of tbe Main Body Expeditionary Force, 12th Nelson Infantry, and having served with Major Brercton, wish to add our testimony as to the great care and justice he always meted out to us. He was an officer and a gentleman that each one of us felt it was a privilege to be commanded by. On every occasion he studied our wants before considering his own. In Zeitoun Camp in March, 1915, after we returned from a heavy march the men complained of the evening meal, through no fault of the authorities, but owing to the cooks. Major Brereton would not allow us to eat it, and paid for food that night out of his own pocket."
