ELLESMERE BOATING CLUB.
FIRST REGATTA. The Ellesmere Boating Club's first regatta was held at Tatnutu, Lake Ellesmere, on New Year's Day, in ideal weather. There was an attendance of over 100. All the events were got off well to time, and there were some exciting finishes. The officials were:—President, Mr R. Taiaroa; lion, sec, Mr H. J. Collins; committee: Messrs I. McGill, F. Alexander, and C. J. Cradock. During the day motor boats ran trips on the lake for a small charge, and the thanks of the club are due to the following gentlemen, who kinflly lent their boats:—Messrs Taiaroa, T. Overton, W. Lambie, H. J. Collins, F. Alexander, Craven, Young, Yince, and Quigley, and to Mr W. Marsh as gatekeeper. The Patriotic Fund will benefit by the sum of £l7. The results of the races were:— First Motor Boat Handicap Ruce.-Huia 'Selwyn crew) I, Isa (R. Taiaroa) 2. Second Motor Boat Handicap Knee.— Active (W, Lambie) 1, Orangl (Vince) 2. Third Motor Boat Handicap Race.-—Orangi 'Vince) 1, Isa (R. Taiaroa) 2. Fishermen's Sailing Boat Race.—Trappino (T. Stratts) 1. Double Sculls in Punts. R. Taiaroa and Rbert. Single Seuils in Punts. —G. Taiaroa. Youths' Single Sculls in Punts. —H. Overton. Swimming Race, 100 yds.—P. Kirk. During the afternoon an exhibition of surf tobogganing was given by Messrs Alexander and Bowis.
