AN AMAZING VOLUME.
GERMAN CONSUL'S WILD STATEMENTS. "THE AWAKENING OF THE PEOPLE OF THE PACIFIC." (Received January 4, 9.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, January 3. Extracts liave been quoted from a book published by Mr George Turner, recently German Consul-General, entitled, "The Awakening of the People of the Pacific." Mr Turner declares that he has visited many villages where only one person spoke English, and as he left he could hear the villagers singing "Dentschland über Alios." He states that the Australasian colonies have ripened into Socialistic States, working strenuously towards the severance of the last link binding them to the Motherland. It was not on account of England that they rendered military assistance, but because they wanted Samoa and New Guinea. Mr Turner concludes: This injury has made Germany wise, and her future colonial policy must be different to what it has been. After victory we must bind on the helmet tighter.
