PRIZE DISTRIBUTIONS.

GREENPARK.

The . annual breaking-tip ceremony of the Greenpark School was held last Thursday, Mr F. Hubbard, chairman of committee, presiding. Instead of the annual picnic, a contribution was being made to the Patriotic Fund. The prizes were presented by Mrs F. Hubbard as follow:

RAKAIA.

The prize-distribution in connection with the Rakaia School took place on Thursday evening, in the Oddfellows' Hall. The first part of the evening was devoted to an excellent programme of items, supplied -by the school children. During the performance of an action song, "Christmas is Coming," by 12 girls, coins to the value of 5/2 were thrown on to Hie stage, and were devoted to the Serbian Fund. The Rev. W. T. Todd (chairman of the School Committee) addressed the gathering, and briefly referred to the many changes which had taken < place in the School staff during the year. He was pleased to be able to state that the attendance had been so satisfactory that the school would now be entitled to the help of another teacher. Mr W. E. Judkins, the headmaster, thanked the parents and the committee for the way in which they had helped, by precept and example, to keep the attendance at a satisfactory level. He urged those children who were leaving school this year always to uphold the name and honour of the Rakaia School. Votes of thanks to the teaching staff were passed, and a vote of sympathy with Miss McLean, who is absent on sick leave.

A feature of the prize-distribu-tion was the institution of a "Workr er's Prize" in each class. This is in no sense a third prize, but is awarded to the child who has been a good "trier," even though the progress made has been small. The prizes were presented by Mrs W. T. Todd and Mrs C. A. 0. Hardy. The prizes won at the Bible Classes were presented by the Bev. W. T. Todd and the Bev. IT. N. Wright. The school -will reopen on Tuesday, February I. The distribution of prizes at the Okutu School, Okutu Valley, Little River, took place on Wednesday. A very enjoyable afternoon was spent, arid afternoon ,tea was supplied by the ladies. The prize-list is as follows: —

Toys given by Mrs Piercy and Mr Carpenter were raced for, after which the children played organised games in the domain.

SPRINGBANK.

The breaking-up ceremony in connection with the Springbank School was held on Thursday afternoon. There was a fair attendance of parents and friends. Mrs H. Tallott presented the prizes, as follow:

LYNDHURST

The annual picnic and distribution of prizes to scholars of the Lyndhurst School took place on Wednesday. Mr Stephens donated a box of toys for the children, who had given their money to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr W. J. Dickie, M.P., presented the prizes, the attendance prizes going to Eileen Hale (first-class) and Laura Tully (second-class). Mr E. Tully, of Springfield, presented the school with a Union Jack. Mr W. Buclian, in making the presentation to Miss Hight (head mistress), referred to the part played by the people serving under the grand old flag in the present war. Mrs Dickie, on behalf of the parents and children, presented Miss Hight with an easy chair, and Miss Reid (assistant-mistress) with a handbag.

HAMPSTEAD.

The annual prize-giving at the Hampslead School look place on Wednesday evening, the list of recipients being as follows:

WARWICK PRIVATE SCHOOL.

In presenting the prizes at the breaking-up ceremony at the Warwick Private School, the principal spoke of the splendid work done throughout the year, and also of the removal of the school. Two special prizes were given, one for arithmetic, by Mrs O. K. Stone, and won by Marjorie Cook, and the other for general improvement, given by Mrs Newton, and won by Dorothy Parson. The children took the opportunity of making a presentation to Miss McCaldon, acting-principal, and Miss Gulliver, assistant-teacher, who are severing their connection with the school.

The following is the result of a home nursing examination, held at Christcliureli recently, under the auspices of the! St. John Ambulance Association: — Passed and qualified for tlie first certicate of the association: Misses Elsie Anderson, Mary Anderson, Butler, Buttle, Christensen, Hossack, Ingold (2), McAlister, Sneesbv, Gibb, Rogers, Garratt.
