A woman named Jean Cairns, who was committed to the Addington Gaol for 18 months, some time ago, on a charge of vagrancy, died in the institution this morning. She appeared in her usual health last evening, but this morning she was found dead. The deceased was about 46 years of age, and was committed from Wellington. An inquest will be held. An unfortunate owner of a bicycle, who left his machine leaning against a verandah post outside the Royal Exchange Buildings, had the back wheel very badly buckled by an express van this afternoon. A lorry was standing outside the Post Office, when the horses took it upon themselves to bolt. They made for a jeweller's shop, and pulled up at the window, but not before the bieycle had been damaged by one of the wheels of the lorry.
