A COMMONWEALTH CONTRACT.

By Cable.—Press Association.—Govyright. (Received December 1, 10.10 a.m.) HOBART, December 1. The Hon % Mr Jensen has announced that the* Commonwealth is willing to give the Tasmanian Government a* five years' contract for the supply of 5000 tons of oil yearly at £3 to £4 per ton if the Government will take over the work at the Latrobe shale deposit. He added that there is every probability that the department, within a few years, would require 10,000 tons yearly. The department will erect an oil tank at Hevonport, and use its own oilship which is being built in England.
