The death is announced from Sydney of the well-known and breeder of racehorses, Mr W. A. Long. For many years past the deceased gentleman has occupied a very high place amongst Australian sportsmen, and his colours have been carried with varying fortunes on most Australian courses. Amongst the best of the many horses that he owned were Hopscotch, winner of the Epsom Handicap, Petrea (AJ.C. St. Leger), Crossfire and Abner (Doncaster Handicap), and Petroness and Petrea (Sydney Cup). Mr Long, who was well advanced in years, had not been in the best of health for some years, but his death will be none the less regretted by his large circle of friends. TEMPLAR.
