RED CROSS.

CHRISTCHURCH EXECUTIVE MEETS. . / A meeting of the Canterbury Centre Executive of the Red Cross Association was. held yesterday afternoon, there being present: Mr J. A. Flesher (vicechairman) , Dr A. F. J. Miclde, Lieu-tenant-Colonel Creswell, and Messrs H. M. Reeves, M. J. s Gresson, A. Boyle, and H. L. Bowker, jun. The financial statement showed 1 that the amount in hand was £2926 3/2, while the liabilities on November 15 totalled £I2OO. .Replying to a telegram from the executive, his Excellency the Governor stated that he was not in a position to name a date for a meeting in Wellington of the Council of the Red Cross Association, as Canterbury was the only district which had sent in the names of its representatives. It was agreed that the Governor should be . requested to urge the Auckland, Wellington, and Dunedin centres to appoint their delegates to the Central Council immediiately, as it was impossible to proceed with.New Zealand Red Cross work without their co-operation, and without it the work of the recent conference would be futile.

A letter was received from Lady Godley, at Alexandria, thanking the executive for a third remittance of £l5O for convalescent homes and comforts for sick asd wounded soldiers. Lord Ranfurly forwarded his thanks for the hares, rabbits, and chickens whiph had been forwarded for military hospitals in England. The chairman congratulated the Woolston people on the fine result of the Red Cross fete.

It was agreed that Mr Bernard Tripp should be asked to visit Nelson and explain Red Cross organisation. A sub-committee was set up and given power to act in the matter of an offer to arrange for a collection amongst the Roman Catholics of the city and suburbs. It was decided that a conference between the executive and the captains of bandage-making teams should be held at 4 p.m. on Friday.
