SOCIETY OF ARTS.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Society of Arts was held yesterday afternoon in the Art Gallery, Mr W. ; Menzies Gibb presiding over a good attendance. ■ The annual report and* balance-sheet ■(already published) were adopted. Mr McGregor "Wright expressed the opinion that public attention should be called to the clause in the report stating that the gallery had frequently been lent during the year for patriotic purposes. Officers were elected as follow: —President, Mr W. Menzies Gibb; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs James Jamieson- and McGregor Wright; 'council, Messrs R. Herdman Smith, R; Wallwork, E. C. Huie, and C. F. Kellyj hon. treasurer, Mr W. J. Moore j: hon. auditor, Mr J. W. K. Lawrence.
On the motion of Mr P. L. Hallenstein, a vote of sympathy was passed to the secretary, Mr 0. M. Parker, who is prevented .by illness from taking aji active part in the society 's affairs.
