CANTERBURY COLLEGE.

MEETING OF THE BOARD. A meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College, held j this afternoon, was attended by Mr J. C. Adams (chairman), Dean Hills, Dean Harper, and Messrs G. Rennie, C. H. Opie, H. Boyd, W. Brock, T. Hughes, T. H. Davey, S. Hurst Seager, W. H. Mortgomery, aud T. W. Adams. Leave of absence was given to Bishop Julius, and Messrs L. B. Wood and G. T. Weston. Mr J. W. Joynt, representative of the union of New Zealand in London wrote that he was retaining the board's resolution of sympathy with Louvain University in the meantime. It would be handed to the authorities at the earliest possible moment.

Professor Stewart, who is on active service, wrote asking that the term of his locum tenens, Mr H. Broadhead, be extended indefinitely, as he did not know when he would be able to return to New Zealand. He added that he had been hit five times by bullets, and four times by bomb fragments. He had v received his captaincy, and hoped soon to get his majority. The chairman said that arrangements had already been made in accordance with Professor Stewart's wishes.

On the motion of Mr Opie it was decided that spare bpoks and magazines from the public library should be sent for the use of the Dominion's troops in camp, on the hospital ships, in Gallipoli and Egypt, and in the convalescent homes for returned soldiers.

The resignation of Mr A. Plowman of his position as professor's demonstrator in the School of Engineering was accepted as from January 21 next. Mr Plowman has accepted an appointment at the Broken Hill Technical School.

Mr P. G. Bamford was appointed to take Mr Plowman's place. The Museum and Library Committee reported that the second-year Engineering Exhibition had been awarded to Mr M. J. Scottthat it had accepted the resignation of Mr D. B. Copeland of his position as teacher of English and arithmetic at the School of Art; and that it had authorised the closing of the Public Library on December 16 the day of the River Bank Carnival.
