SUMNER-REDCLIFFS.
The monthly meeting of the Sumner Burgesses' Association was held on Saturday evening, Mr J. H. Maynard presiding over a fair attendance-.
The Hon. John Barr replied to the letter from the association relating to the causeway and his explanation as to the progress of the work was considered perfectly satisfactory. The action of the council in deciding to defer consideration of a stone wall at Clifton Bay until after the back streets of Sumner had been put in order was approved, as was also the electric lighting scheme for Redcliffs. The opinion was expressed that the gas works at Sumner would meet the needs of that part of the borough for many years to come.
It was decided to thank the Tramways Board for placing concession tickets on sale in the borough and to suggest the sale of parcel tickets *,vould also prove a boon to residents. The unsafe condition of the landing staging at the pier was brought under the notice of the association, and it was decided to write the secretary of the Harbour ..Board pointing out the necessity of immediate repairs being effected. The weekly parade of the SumnerRedcliffs section of the Citizens' Defence Corps was held at Redcliffs yesterday morning, when there was a muster of 45. A useful hour's drill was given by Sergeant W. A. Smith, at the conclusion of which Captain A. C. Wilson congratulated the men on the manner in which the various movements had been executed.
