SPRINGS.
The annual meeting of the Springs County Council was attended by Messrs M. F. Ryan, J. W. Kime, and C. Wolfe. Mr Ryan was unanimously re-elected chairman, and was thanked for his services during the past year. In acknowledging the compliment paid him, Mr Ryan said he did not think any member had the right to monopolise the office of chairman, and oji that account he had hoped some other member would have taken the position. He would, however, accede to their wishes and continue to do his best for the ratepayers. At the monthly meeting held subsequently Messrs I. Andrew and Stoddart were also present. The resignation of Mr G. Baker as dog registrar was accepted, and it was decided to place on record an appreciation of his services. A tender was accepted for the supply of 400 dog collars. It was decided to refer the complaint about stray stock to the ranger. The chairman reported having granted permission to the Springston Committee of the River Bank Carnival to collect subscriptions, provided the money went through the council to be credited later on to the group queen in connection with the carnival to be held next autumn. Mr Wolfe and the clerk were deputed to deal with tenders for improvements to one of the council's cottages. The surveyor's report was adopted,.and it was decided to have Carter's drain cleaned.
After the ordinary meeting a special meeting was held, at which by-laws pro j viding for regulating the traffic over the J Lincoln bridge were passed.
