MOUNT HERBERT.
The monthly meeting of the Mount Herbert County Council "was held on Wednesday ,last at the Couneil Chambers, Purau. Present: Messrs Orton I Bradley (chairman), A. R. Fleming,. Geo. Steele, L. M. Wilson, R. Allan, W. H. Firmston, and J. A. Gellety. A vote of condolence was passed to the relatives of Nurse Hildyard, and to the relatives of the late Mrs James Allan. A vote of sympathy was passed to Mr James E. Davenport in his illness. Mr R. Allan gave notice of motion to rescind the resolution regarding the formation of a county road throughout the county. The clerk reported that he had interviewed the owners of land having gates fixed on by-roads off the main roads. Some were agreeable to pay the rent as requested, but one refused. The council resolved to order the removal of the gate, where the payment of rent was refused. Mr H.j Field wrote, asking permission to plant trees on road near the jetty at Port Levy.—Granted. The Patriotic Fund Committee wrote, calling a meeting of j delegates for Wednesday, December 1, to make arrangements for the Peninsula Queen. Messrs Bradley, Wilson, A. R. Fleming, and Carpenter were appointed delegates. The clerk reported that he had up to the present £650 for the Queen. The Red Cross branch, Governor's Bay, applied for a donation of material. The council agreed to grant £5 5/- quarterly. The sum of £5 was voted to the Belgium Fund. The financial statement showed a credit balance of £216 7/1. Votes of I hanks were passed to the retiring chairman, and to Mr F. R. H. Gardiner, for generously supplying the council with lunch throughout the year. The annual meeting was then held, and Mr Orton Bradley was re-elected chairman.
