SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
LINWOOD. At the monthly meeting of the Linwood School Committee, on Wednesday evening, there were present: Messrs W. H. Denton (chairman), E. Carter, W. J. Jenkin, G. Gundry, G. Phillips, and D. Coulter. The Education Board wrote suggesting that Mrs M. Mayne, of the Kaikoura Suburban School, be transferred to the staff, on account of the increased attendance. It was decided to offer no objection to the board's wish. The ladies of the Linwood-Dal-lingfcon Soldiers' Aid wrote acknowledging the free use of the school for their meetings, and offering to hold a small sale of work at the end of the year to assist the school funds. The offer was accepted with thanks, and Messrs Denton, Carter, Phillips, and Evans were appointed to make the necessary arrangements with the ladies. Mr F. T. Evans reported that the school attendance had improved, the average for the past two weeks being 592, and the total roll number 647. The average for the month was 567. It was agveed to establish swimming classes for senior pupils, and Miss G. Fitch and Mr G Ormandy were appointed instructors. Messrs G. Phillips and E. Carter were appointed the Visiting Committee for the month. The pupils had given £l2 10/6 for material and Eed Cross work.
WOOLSTON. The Woolston School Committee and teaching staff met last evening to arrange a concert for the raising of funds for the erection of a shelter shed. The suggestion that no picnic, should be held this year, and the money used for the erection of the shelter, was strongly opposed by three members of the committee. It was eventally decided to call a special meeting of householders on Monday next to decide the question.
