A SAVAGE PENALTY.
MISS CAVELL'S EXECUTION. '' FOUL-MINDED ARROGANCE AND INSATIABLE BESTIALITY." (Received October 23, 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 22. The "Westminster Gazette" says:—Every English man and woman will read Miss Caveil's story with pride at the bravery of the splendid woman, in scorning subterfuge,''''and with horror and indignation at the cruelty and lack of chivalry, in inflicting a savage penalty for a,technical offence. ~.;.. The "Pall Mall Gazette" says:-—The moment when the German' officer,'firing his revolver into the'unconscious form of the brave woman, destroyed a life untiringly spent in the service of humanity, he compressed.into one dramatic picture all that is embodied in the conflict which is convulsing the whole hemisphere. No peace will be tolerable if it fails to ensure the final and complete destruction of that Power which is trampling truth, justice, and mercy under its heel with foul-minded arrogance and v insatiable bestiality."
