MEETING OF COUNCIL. A meeting, of the Wo.olsLon Borough Council was held hist evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr ,f. J. (Jraham) and Crs I". Newton, "\V. Fuller, J. Hobson, (1. Liltey, J. Richardson, L. Hart, and C. lILII. The Electricity Committee recommended that the tender of the Jarrah Timber Co., for the supply of poles, be accepted; that a reply had been received from the Public Works Department agreeing to make the charge 2d per unit from (5 p.m. to !) p.m. for eight months, September to 'April; and from 1 p.m. to !) p.m., May to August, four months, giving a concession of two summer months at summer rates. The committee recommended that the Traimvays

Board be asked if a more advantageous offer than lid per unit can be made. The report was adopted. The Electrical Engineer reported that two sub-stations for the borough would be sufficient. He recommended that one be placed on the northern side of Regent Street, near Princess Street, on land to be purchased for the purpose, and the other near Smith Street, and that 112 lamps be erected. The report was endorsed The City Council wrote inviting the council to be represented at conference of local bodies, to be held at the City Council Chambers on Friday, July 30, to consider and, ifpossible, arrive at some unanimous decision regarding the payments to be made to the Belgium Relief Fund, and the best basis upon which such payments should be allocated.

Last Thursday evening, in the fSehvyn Street Hall, the Aldington Burgesses' Association held a very successful euchre party and dance, 30 tables being occupied. After supper dancing was indulged in until i rum. The following were the prize-winners:—Ladies, Mrs .Davenport 1, Mrs R. Wood 2, arid Mrs Parlane the ' 1 booby "; gents, Mr Sdiugre 1, Mr JR. French 2, and Mr Allpress the " booby." The best cork conies' from Algeria. There are two and a-half million acres of cork forests in that country."
