THE MEDICAL SERVICE.
IMPERIAL OFFICER APPOINTED.
[From our own Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, July 6.
The Royal Army Medical Corps has appointed Colonel R. S. F. Henderson, an honorary physician to the King, to take control of the New Zealand Medical Service.
"On June 13 a telegram was semt to the Army Council asking .whether they could appoint a senior officer of the R.A.M.C. as director of medi-. cal services in New Zealand," said the Hon. J. Allen. "This morning we received a reply that they had selected Colonel.R. S. F. Henderson, honorary physician to the King, for the appointment, and to-day w r e have agreed to that appointment. Instructions have been sent to the High Commissioner to make the necessary arrangements, and we hope that Colonel Henderson will leave at once for New Zealand. This war has revealed to us that there is very great necessity for organisation of our army medical service, and experience of our training camps has also led us to believe that expert advice is required. 1 do not say that our medical men are not competent to do all the medical and surgical work required, but in the army medical service there is a great deal beyond that. That is the reason why we have asked for this appointment."
