LABOUR IN CONFERENCE.
SERIES OF RESOLUTIONS: Pre«s AssociationWELLINGTON. July 7. The Federation of Labour Conference opened here to-day. Mr D. G. Sullivan, president of the Federation, in his opening address, said the delegates belonged to unions irrespective of industrial and .party affiliations. He urged that the increase shown by the tables issued by the Government statistician about the cost of living was a substantial reason for the unions denianding considerable increases in wages. Mr John Rigg, ex-M.L.C, was elected president of the conference. Motions were carried urging the Government to obtain State colliers to carry the State coal; to use State coal on the railways; and to give the workers' mining inspectors the same privileges as the State mining inspectors in respect to the frequency! of their visits of inspection. It was also decided that the Government be asked to enact a law whereby information regarding the selling price of coal will be available in all coaling parts.
