_ ~ - « -—. —; —■ ■' • TO-DAY'S CASES. There was a short sitting of thOPolice Court this morning, Mr H. W. • Bishop, S.M., presiding. DRUNKENNESS AND ORDERS., William Vincent was charged with drunkenness and a breach of his prohibition order. He was fined 10/-, with; the usual alternative on each charge. Lizzie Gleeson was fined 10/- ior $ second offence of drunkenness, ant Harry Kilgour was sentenced to fourteen days' imprisonment for a thirl offence Gus Thomas Ward was fined 10/-, ia default 48 hours' imprisonment, for a first breach of his prohibition order. Fredk. Seelen admitted having entered the Albion Hotel while he was the ! subject of a prohibition order, and admitted having procured liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. He was convicted and discharged oa both charges, being told that he waa qualifying for Roto Roa. Gabriel Hadling denied having procured liquor during the currency of his prohibition order, and further denied having supplied liquor to Lena Hadling, a prohibited person. He was fined 60/-, in default a month's imprisonment on each charge. ,* William Nicholas Columbus, for a first breach of his prohibition order, was fined 10/-, with the alternative of 48 hours' imprisonment. ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Thomas Coughlan, an old man, was charged with attempting to Commit suicide, and was remanded for 14 days. The police said that while Coughlam had been drunk he cut his throat with a knife, and had since been in the hospital. It was thought best to sen* him back to the hospital until a homo could be found for him.' THEFT. Frederick Ellis, alias Frank Barrett, admitted that on June 28, at Christchurch he stole a quantity of timber, valued at £1 12/-, the property of Joha. Waller and Sons. Ho was fined 40/-, in default & mouth's imprisonment. MAINTENANCE. James Norton was charged with being about to leave the Dominion without giving security for the maintenance of his stepson. He was remanded till tomorrow. „,„,„, , Austin F. A'Court was £lO 10/- in arrears in the maintenance of his wife. He was sentenced to a month's imprisonment in default of payment, beinc allowed a month to find the money. Bernard Noonan, £lB 5/- in arrears in the support of his illegitimate child, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in default of payment, tht order to be suspended, and the warrant to be suspended, provided he pays off the arrears at the rate of 5/- a week. Arthur Biggs (Mr Cassidy) was-or-dered to pay 20/- a week toward* the support of his wife, Winifrod Alico Biggs (Mr M. Donnelly), being ordered to find security in the sum of £IOO.
