SUMNER-REDCLIFFS NOTES. From Our Correspondent. The sunshine recorded for the week, ending July 4, was 26 hours 50 minutes, a decrease of 13 hours as compared with the same period last year. On two days, viz., 29th and Ist, there were more than ft hours of sunshine, whilst one day, the 28th, there was no sunshine recorded. The committee of the Ladies* Miniature Rifle Club met last evening, Mrs G. W. C. Smithson presiding. Owing to many of the members not being able to use the range on Tuesday evenings it was decided to apply Tramways Board for permission to use the tram shed on Saturday afternoons. A friendly match between teams representing Sumner and Redcliffs will be fired on the last Tuesday in July! A prize of £1 1/- was donated by Miss Rutherford and arrangements will be made next meeting to fire for this trophy. The next monthly meeting; will be held at Redcliffs. The committee of the Sumner Beautifying Committee met at Mr Fountain Barber's residence on Monday evening, Mr S. K. Bassett presiding over a fair attendance. It was reported that donations of one, guinea each had been received from : Messrs G. Humphreys, H. N. Adams, Patterson and Hobday, the audit balance to date being £3 3/-. Arrangements were made for the clearing of the reserve at the tram Nayland Street. It was also decided not to meet again until August Is. Major Jones, of Christchurch, assisted by Sergeant Turjtill, gave 8L interesting. address to_..t]h£jmeanry bcrs of the Sumner-Redcliffs section of the Citizens' Defence Corps last v evening, when there, was a good attendance. The chair was occupied by Captain A. C. Wilson. The lecture, which was illustrated by lantern slides, showed all the latest work in the trenches at the front. At the conclusion of his address Major Jones was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A miniature rifle match against Cashmere will he fired at Sumner on Wednesday. The following have been selected to represent the local, team:—G. Lister, W. Winter, G. F. Allen, A. Patterson, R. Piercy, G. S. Cowper, C. Bishop, J. H. Gibbs, W. G. Roberts, S. K. Bassett; emergencies, A. C. Wilson, G. White, J. E* Stevens.
