MR DACRE AGAIN CORRECTED.
To ther Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —Your correspondent, Mr T. E. Dacre, lias been kind enough to point out to the electors of Linwood some matters to which it is necessary for me to:reply. ; ■ .< • . Mr Dacre explains that some years ago I was one of the most prominent large landowners who prepared a counter petition to block the proposal for including North Linwood and Avonside in the city. As for being a " large landowner,''' I have not at any time owned, more than ,1-J acres in the district affected, and was aware that my rates would be decreased considerably should the proposal be granted. My objections were solely to having, the block bordered by Wyon Buckley 's .Road, New Brighton. Road, and Mile Road taken into the city. This block comprises about 3.5 acres, and at that tlime h&d only five houses on it, and. I did not think the time opportune for including such a thinly populated area within the city, especially as most of the land was on the market. I had no objections to the thickly populated portion of Linwood being taken into Greater Christcliurch, and took no part in the proposal, other than objecting to having included the particular block I have mentioned-
This is the first occasion on which I have had to indulge in personalities] and I regret doing.so,.biyt Mr Dacre, misrepresents the facts, and I am compelled to correct him in my own interests. —I am, etc., • ) W. H. DENTON. 250 Mile Road, Linwood.
