COUNTY COUNCILS.

HEATHCOTE. The Heathcote County Council met last evening, when there were present Messrs Geo. Scott (chairman) G. K. Burton, E. Gudsell, W. H, Scarff, G. M. Hall, C. Flavell, and F. A. Anderson. The financial statement showed:— County fund account, debits £4933 18/9; sewage and water loan account, credit, £1258 4/2; roading loan account, credit, £35 19/11; and East Linwood loan account, credit, £964 6/3. Accounts amounting to £739 9/4 were passed for payment. The county engineer reported that good progress was being made, on the East Linwood loan. The building permits issued for the month were as follow:—Avon £350, Cashmere £llOO, and St. Martins £4OO. I In connection with the prevention of fire, the. engineer reported that there were two ways in which to act. One. was to have boxes, containing a hydrant and 150 yards of hose, distributed evenly over the district, and the other was to establish a volunteer | fire brigade. He estimated the total J cost at £9l, this comprising* two reel j'houses, two reels,' four hydrants, and ! 500 yds of hose. I The matter was left in the hands of I the members of the district, instructing them to lav a report before the Residents' Association.
