DOMINION BOY SCOUTS.
A meeting of the-council of the Dominion Boy Scouts was held at the Y.-M.C.A.. on Friday night at 7.30 p.m. Lieut.-Colonel Cossgrove occupied the chair, and there were also present Sir Cecil Moon, Lieut.-Colonel Cresswell, and H. *B. J. Goodman,. Dr Inglis, and Eev. W. H. Orbell (hon. secretary). Applications were received from two troops for the King's Standard, viz., Ponsonby (Auckland) and Lyttelton, troops. It was decided that as neither' troop -had complied with the regulations that the standard should not be awarded this year.. The committee felt that the boys deserved every credit for their splendid work, but the regulations must be strictly adhered to. Correspondence was received fron>> Colonel. Robin, Commandant of New Zealand Forces, re the registration of the Boy Scouts uniform, intimating that the matter would be put before the H.ou. Minister of Defence for his consideration.
The chairman reported that Mr Brian Morris, Magistrate in Cook Islands, had introduced the movement there. The council confirmed his appointment as commissioner.
Captain Prictor, of Botorua, was appointed commissioner, and Mr Morgan, of Timaru, as district commander. Colonel.' Cressweli reported that he attended a parade at Brooklyn (Wellington) of the Boy Scouts there on the occasion of the presentation of the Boyal Humane Societies-" certificate and had represented the council on that occasion. .A-New Zealand bag and ensign were presented to the troops at the same time..
It was decided that Sir Cecil Moon should be appointed deputy-commission-er for North Canterbury'district. •A motion was passed expressing the sincere regret of the members of the council at the untimely death of District Commander Benjamin, of Lyttelton, and also their deep sense.of the loss that the Scout movement had sustained by the death of one who had been so eminently-successful in training boys in the principles of Scout craft.
The chairman intimated that he had conveyed to the relatives of the deceased the sincere sympathy of the members of the council in their sorrow.
