Labour candidate for Christehurch South, had .two excellent meetings of electors last evening. There were about 500 people at the first, which was held at the corner of Lincoln Road and Dickens Street. Mr E. Parlane presided. The candidate dealt with several very important questions, including the higher cost of Jiving and the prices fixed by the Government for wheat and flour.' In the latter connection, Mr Whiting said that the Government had not done any better for the small miller and the community in general—in fact, in fixing the prices it had done worse for the community than the Commission had done. The candidate was frequently applauded, and on the motion of Mr W. Butler, seconded by Mr C. Garter, he was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. The meeting broke up with cheers for the candidate. The second meeting, held at the comer of Montreal and Hanover Streets, was attended by about 200 people. After Mr . Whiting had spoken on the lines of<his previous address, he was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence, with but one dissentient from the vote.
