SMOKE CONCERT. The delegates of the New Zealand ln« stitute of Architects, which has just ,< concluded its annual conference in :} \ Christchurch, were entertained at a. : t smoke' concert by the Christchurch ' ->J branch of the institute at the Henrietta' *' Tea .Rooms last evening. Mr' Hurst ,'" Seager presided, and his Worship the- ,t. Mayor was also present. \ The evening was quietly convivial, \ and strictly professional,. there being _;„. present leading architects from all over" <~ New Zealand and several well-known - l * engineers and surveyors of this city.. \ Some brief and interesting speeches ■ were made in proj>osing toasts and in ,-• responding to them. After the toast ,;" 4 of "The King," proposed by the presi- 'i dent, there followed tlie toasts of "The i. Institute," proposed by Mr K. Reeee, in the absence of Professor fc>cott, who was ,; unable-to attend, and responded to by ,'; Messrs Atkins and Chatiield, of Wei- / lington; "Kindred Institutes," pro- .' posed by Mr Salmond, of "Duuedin, and ' responded to by Mr Mclntyre and Mr -', A. D. Dobbon, city surveyor; "The .' Legislature," proposed by Mr Allison/*;/ "The City Council," proposed by Mr W. A. dimming, and responded to by ' the Maj-or; and "The Institute's Branches'," proposed by Mr P. Y. * " Wales*. Various songs and other musi- ; cal items gave pleasant diversity to the proceedings, the singers being Messrs ? C. J oil, P. Hanna, A. L. Cropp, S. Phik Jlips, F. G. Gurnsey, and R. Vincent. Mr 's,j ;B.' Clark played a 'violin solo/and Cat* clarionette solo was given by Mr A. .T». *[ Clarkson. The pianist was Mr R. J.-'"*-} Hobbs. * - '- '•
